Keen Footwear & REI Partner on Eco-Carton Shoebox
This shoebox is 100% recycled materials and 100% biodegradable
Portland, OR, June 20, 2006 - This new shoebox design will be used on Keen Trail Running shoes for Fall 2006 including the waterproof Ochoco and Malibu. The Eco-Carton box will be out nation-wide in REI locations.
Additionally, the box is:
- Manufactured from 100% post-consumer waste. Not a single new tree is consumed in its manufacture.
- 100% biodegradable. You could use it as compost in your garden.
- 100% free from all artificial dyes, chemicals, ink or chlorine.
"We are thrilled to join forces with REI on such an important environmental project," said Kirk Richardson, President of Keen. "As a company, we're commitment to keeping an active social conscience in every way."
"I was impressed with the shoebox," said Denise Friend, Footwear Product Manager at REI. "Everyday our employees go through so much unnecessary packaging. It's recyclable and biodegradable. At REI we're hoping they've started a new, environmentally responsible trend that all shoe manufacturers will embrace."
