The Completely Biased Review...

Billed as "the worlds only hillside adjustable chair", the Everywhere Chair from GCI is indeed an interesting specimen. Built in 1994 by GCI founder Dan Grace, this chair was designed to conquer the ever-present problem of setting up a chair on a slope. While I may not agree that this is truly a huge problem in the outdoor furniture market, I do agree that the chair actually works well on slopes and is very comfortable.
So how does this marvel of engineering work? (Please refer to the product picture at the top of the review for some clarification) The top of the front legs (or bar) is attached to the seat on a pivoting joint while the bottoms of the front legs are connected to the back legs with a nylon strap and buckle. The buckle is easily adjusted to allow the front leg to swivel and contact the ground at different angles. This allows the seat portion of the chair to remain level, no matter what the angle of the slope. The side back strap then allows for reclining by simply adjusting the buckle on the right side of the body. As a bonus, the chair folds up simply by pulling on the backstrap, which then becomes a convenient shoulder strap. Simple, right?
Sarcasm aside, I really like using the Everywhere chair, even when I'm on flat ground. The adjustability of the lower leg and the side back strap buckle allow for easy lounging in an unlimited number of reclining positions. The chair also folds up into a conveniently slim package that packs well in any trunk. And contrary to my winded description of how the chair works, it is actually quite simple and intuitive to use.
If you are looking for a sensibly priced car camping chair, this could be it. Also, if you go to a lot of outdoor concerts, this chair will obviously set up well on the hillside of the amphitheatre. GCI Outdoor makes a couple other folding chairs that are also very reasonably priced.
