The Completely Biased Review...

For the past three months GravityFed has been testing the Sector 9 Original Pintail. We really enjoyed reviewing this product because longboarding is one of our favorite sports. Here's what we think of the board. While there have been several improvements and modifications made to longboards over the past five years, one thing remains indisputable: of all the variations on the market today, none of them capture the soul and simplicity of the sport like four hard wheels bolted to a plank of wood, ripping up smooth asphalt. So this season we're getting back to the essence of the sport, and what better way to do it than with the longboard legend, Sector 9.
When their guerilla marketing team caught wind of GravityFed's proposal to do some more longboard reviews, they seized the opportunity and sent us a shiny, new board. Sector 9 didn't become the powerhouse in the longboard industry that they are today by fear of marketing their product. They stepped right into the GravityFed review ring and showed why they're the champs. This board rekindled my love for the broad, sweeping turn and reinforced why Sector 9 runs things in the world of longboarding.
The board Sector 9 chose for me to review was an Original Pintail. It came with 166mm trucks and 70mm 78A nine ball wheels. There's no flip tail, just a stiff, concave plank of laminated 11 ply birch with plenty of surface area and stability for walking the board. Its hardness makes it perfectly suitable for high speed turns on big paved canyon roads. The board's natural inclination is toward wide, GS-style turns, but by loosening up the trucks it can be tamed into doing slalom turns by anyone who can understand the concept in the first place. I also found the board had a pleasantly predictable slide on steep hills. This is a great board for somebody who likes to carve big turns with some momentum.
You don't have to be a rippin' California surfer to buy a longboard and surf the paved hills in your town. I've seen many good skiers and boarders naturally make the summertime transition to longboarding. Once you get the hang of it it's not so intimidating, and from there on you'll learn a lot fast (unless you're some kind of meathead). Just remember to pad up, because eventually everyone pays the price. In the end, riding a Sector 9 is just good, clean fun and it's still cool after all these years. There is still plenty of time before it snows, so if you can read this, get a Sector and get out there.

I got my pintale week ago and I'm in heaven.
I have aggressive riging style whit snowboard and this one gets really near. First downhill I realize that there's no way to break on this thing so it was really nice overtake cars whit skate. I've tryed shorter sector9's but this one is much more easy to control on high speed. I love it.

Pintails aren't as good as the flexy 38 inch cloud nines. The flexys can do it all, from grand turns to laybacks to huge airs at churches, these things rule.

I just got a pintail after owning a cloud 9 board for a while. my best friend had one and i got totally stoked on the board-it's insane! it's so responsive, but not too much, so you still have control. It's a pretty forgiving board as far as control goes-you just go for it and relax and you've pretty much got it. my advice: trying to bomb a hill on your third day out is NOT a good idea...i'm still paying off the hospital bills!

I bought my Sector 9 Original Pintail about a year and a half ago. I didn't have much skating experience beforehand, just dabbled a bit as a kid but I surf which probably helped. Anyway, as soon as I got on the thing it just seemed so smooth and went for miles on just one push. It wasn't long before I was carving big turns and bombing hills, my confidence grew overnight. It's easy to walk the board and ride the nose, hanging ten on this thing whilst travelling at reasonable speed is childs play! It's surprising how fast you can go on it and still have complete control. I don't need a kick tail to do anything fancy, just cruisin' with style is where I'm at. I like a lot of other Sector 9 boards but this is the one for me.

This is incredible. i have never seen a bad review of a sector 9 deck, and this one is no different. i am seriously connected to the classic pintail. i love this board and i love riding. there is no better way to get yourself all jacked up than on a huge hill with monster turns. no better way to get bitch slapped by the pavement than by getting knocked off by a big truck. stay safe and ride to live.

I've had my Pintail for a few days now (got it 2/19) and I love it!! My Friend has the Mega Cruiser... Sector 9's Luke Nosewalker! So sar we have just been getting used to the boards and carving down a few shallow to medium hills. The pintail is light and nimble like a sports car. I tightened the trucks just a touch after the broke in, but everything is pretty much stock right out of the store. I haven't developed the feel for sliding yet but it feels like it has the potential to be really smooth and controllable sideways. The board is very stable and springy. I definately recommend this board to anyone looking to carve big smooth arcs on the pavement!
