The Completely Biased Review...

Photo by Sean Smith Magic Chalk - Interesting concept...add alcohol to powdered chalk (Please don't try this at home!) to create a product in a plastic jar intended to keep sweaty palms in check, then apply like a layer of bag balm all over the hands. It looks really cool; envision a mime´s gloved hands on a climber´s body.

Great for bouldering, the gym, and short bolt routes, plus it's the easiest way to dry hands before a longer climb. Even when your hands are no longer white, Magic chalk is actually still there keeping you dry.

According to Betty Sisco, Vice President of Vertical Technology, "the greatest benefit of Magic Chalk is that it is made of only pharmaceutical grade products. This means that all the ingredients have met FDA guidelines. The typical block chalk used today contains 'other inert ingredients'. The air we breath with Magic Chalk in the gym is cleaner."

Magic Chalk has been created by Vertical Technology, 7014 Deer Path Ridge, High Ridge, Missouri 63049. Call them at 800.647.0123 or find them on the web at www.liquidchalk.com.

Review:
Been climbing for 20+ years and regular chalk has never really bothered me except that it seems to disappear off my hands quickly, get all over everything when you pack your gear away and create clouds of dust in the gym. I hit upon "Magic Chalk" by accident when taking my daughter to gymnastics class. I thought "what a great idea for climbing" and bought some. The first time I tried it I was astounded. It has staying power that seems to last and last. I appreciate not having to take time out of my climbs just to chalk up sweaty hands, because it doesn't happen anymore. I also appreciate not having all the chalk dust floating around, getting on everything and having to breath it in. Kudos to magic chalk. Another reviewer states that it is like having a thin glove of chalk on your hand. I could not describe it better myself.

I sweat a lot. You have no idea. Just thinking about climbing makes my hands WET. Not humid... Dripping wet. I toughy LiquidChalk would help. Well... the alcohol cools my hands down a bit, but not enough to prevent wetness. LiquidChalk stays on for 2 or 3 holds. No more. Same as standard chalk. So I'm still shopping around for the right solution!

Review:
I bought some Magic Chalk this past summer and have had a few chances to test it out on a few different walls. I want to start off by saying that I really like the product. It does everything that the company says it does and to be honest I was very surprised. I love this stuff when I am bouldering, its easy to put on, fast, clean, and sticks to both gym holds and real rocks great. However, I don't like just using liquid chalk on longer routes. True, I don't need to chalk up a lot but on longer routes I find that it is helpful to keep my chalk bag handy. On longer routes I tend to use the product as a base coat that seems to work out fantastically.
